This review is a long time coming. After a traumatic birthing experience with my daughter 16 years ago, I knew when I got pregnant this time around, I wanted someone to help educate, advocate, support and uplift me. I had no idea when I reached out to this program what a gem I’d find in Shana. From our first telephone meet and greet, where she went over the basics, and what I could expect to the subsequent in person visits, and at home follow ups, Shana made my family feel like she cared. She went above and beyond the basics, answered every one of my texts and phone calls, even after giving birth. When I woke up the morning of labor with slight contractions and I reached out, she helped keep my calm and reminded me of the birthing plan that we had gone over.

Most importantly, she supported me, without making my husband feel useless or like he wasn’t included. During labor, she was there in the shadows observing and giving gentle reminders and encouragement as my husband held my hand she provided the ice chips. Shana also took pictures during and after labor, (with permission) and wasnt something I knew I’d want until I reviewed the photos of the intense, brutal and honest moments of birth. She was there listening as the nurse would check me and would give recommendations but always reminded me to follow my instinct and what I was most comfortable with. Provided tips and tricks to help me work through difficulty latching, during breastfeeding, and even did a home visit where she helped me find different ways to introduce a bottle. Some of these things may seem small but meant the world to me. Being 8 months post partum now, she still checks in and I feel I am still able to reach out and pick her brain. I cannot say enough about her and the knowledge, warmth, and way she made me feel like no question or concern was too small, and didnt look at me as if I should “know” these things simply because I had given birth before.
I know that any woman lucky enough to have Shana as a doula will say the same, and I hope that other moms are able to feel as safe on this journey with a doula as Shana made me feel.
